Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonmorris

Half a football pitch wide, the Cloonmorris ring stands on a slight rise above eastern pasture. Surveyors marked its circle in 1921, but quarrying has since bitten through both sides and erased most of the bank. A neighbouring house site waits nearby, suggesting ordinary people lived beside the fort rather than fearing fairy trickery. What remains is a low irregular swell, small enough to walk across yet large enough to have kept rain, heat and perhaps invaders at a distance.
