What is recorded here
Dundalk Upr By and Dunbin Par. now hide a forgotten circular fort. The earth may have swallowed its bank, but the cropmark still draws a ghost circle in the fields. Perhaps people lived inside that ring before memory faded. If so, the land kept their shape longer than the people did.
Situated on a gentle E-facing slope. Depicted as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 45m) only on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a ‘Fort’. It is also faintly visible as a cropmark of a circular area (diam. c. 35m) defined by a single fosse feature on OSI images (1995).
