Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowmore (gallen By., Killasser Par.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Carrowmore holds a circular earthen fort where human hands shaped the land before written history. The local name suggests fairies, but the structure is a human dwelling or defence, built with deliberate labour and occupied when the region was young. The earth still keeps the shape of that choice, preserving a life lived under open sky in western Ireland.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
