Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains in Carnaun or Curraghaun, though a forgotten hand may have cut a forty-metre semicircular bank across the galway fields centuries before the surveyors arrived. The missing earth does not make the chamber empty; it withholds its shape from hurried eyes and waits for someone patient enough to listen for the boundary hidden beneath grass and memory.
Marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a semicircular enclosure (D c. 40m) curving from NW through E to SE and cut by the td. boundary at NW and SE. Not visited. Its location is incorrectly marked on SMR. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
