What is recorded here
Mnemo is an earthen ringfort in Callas, County Cork. A worn bank one metre high encloses a circular space twenty-seven metres across, now crowded with coniferous trees on the south side of a farmyard. The shape predates the trees and the farm, marking a time when people lived inside that small circle before forgetting what it held.
In pasture, on S side of farmyard. Circular area (diam. 27.5m) defined by a worn earthen bank (H 1.1m). Bank and interior planted with coniferous trees.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
