Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Caher (carbery E. (w.d.) By., Kinneigh Par.) stands in pasture atop a rise, a circular earthwork enclosing a hidden passage and dumped boulders. People may have lived there before forgetting the entrance, or perhaps they built the chamber deliberately to keep something out of the main house. The earthen bank still marks the boundary between the ordinary field and the strange chamber below.

In pasture, atop rise. Circular, slightly raised area (37m N-S; 37.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.9m); external fosse (D 0.6m) E->WSW. Entrance to E (Wth 3m) revetted on N side by two slabs; either side of causeway defined by two recumbant slabs. Large boulders dumped in S half of interior; Man-made underground passage (CO108-01502-) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
