Three deep ditches and three tall banks circled Bengour East, a sturdy defensive ring on the ridge shoulder. People called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the underground passage inside defied ordinary sense or because the work required to build it seemed superhuman. Then a fence cutter arrived in 1979 and erased the rings in hours. One standing stone still breaks the grass, preserving the shape of what human ambition built and ordinary maintenance destroyed.

In pasture, on shoulder of E-W ridge. 'The ringfort was a very well preserved structure, consisting of three banks and three ditches' (Hurley and Hurley 1979, 49-50). Levelled 1979 during field fence clearance. Standing stone (CO095-03202-) on outer bank survives; Man-made underground passage (CO095-03203-) in interior.
