Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed because people stopped remembering their own history. This one in Ballyvorisheen is a broken earthen circle on a hill, partly filled with manure and water, yet still shaped like a place where someone stood together. The fairies inherit only what forgetting abandons.

In pasture, atop hill. Roughly circular area (c. 44m E-W) enclosed by heavily overgrown, earthen bank (int. H 1.25m; ext. H 1.3m); external fosse (max. D 0.3m) to N and SSW. Rubble dumped on bank to S. Break (Wth 4.6m) in bank to NW. Fosse to SSW narrow where possible counterscarp bank (H 0.6m) exists. Dump for farmyard manure in W half of interior; E half partially waterlogged with rushes growing in it. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
