Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyvologe

Fairy fort in Ballyvologe is a roughly circular earthen ring on the southeast slopes of Knockfeerina mountain, preserved inside a small field choked with thorns. The bank still stands about two metres high outside and one and a half metres inside, enclosing a space wide enough for a dozen people to walk in a circle. Local tradition calls it a fairy fort, which suggests people once believed the land belonged to someone else. A person might have stood at the thorn edge, feeling watched rather than welcome, and gone home before dark.
