Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyvogue

Fairy fort in Ballyvogue, County Limerick: an oval rath, 38 metres north to south, ringed by an earth-and-stone bank that rises seventy-five centimetres inside and eighty-five outside. The bank runs northwest to southwest, then thins where a field boundary cuts across it; boulders dumped at the northeast and southeast widen it to three metres, while a dip at the south-west leaves a shadowed gap. The flat middle is thick with nettles, and the whole sits on an east-facing break in the slope, looking down into the river valley. People may have kept stock there, marked a boundary, or simply followed the shape the land already suggested.
