Fairy forts are no joke. They are haunted. That is why people stopped digging them. The flat field in Ballyteige Lower still holds a hollow where one stood before men erased it with iron. What was taken may have been a chamber, a door, a ladder, or a room for the dead. The land kept the shape of the loss.

In reclaimed pasture. The monument was levelled during recent reclamation work and the area of the site is now defined by a slight hollow in an otherwise level field.
