Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed, often because they were abandoned before local memory stretched far enough to recall the people who built them. Ballynabinnia is no different: a broad earthen bank, about thirty-five metres across, still stands at the north end of a low ridge in County Clare pasture. The fairies are a later story told around an older human shape.

A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballynabinnia is a circular early-medieval enclosure, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries, used as a defensive or agricultural settlement. Local tradition associates such sites with the "good people" or fairies, and they were often avoided or respected in rural folklore.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
