Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballymarcahaun

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Magic and mystery surround the Ballymarcahaun fairy fort, where an earthen ring rises from level pastureland. The circular rath measures 35.5 metres across, though numerous gaps breach its bank and invite entry. A man-made underground passage cuts through the western half, suggesting human hands shaped the darkness beneath the grass.
In level pastureland. Circular rath (diam. 35.5m), in fair condition, defined by a bank which is breached by numerous gaps. There is a Man-made underground passage (GA114-016001-) within the W half of the interior. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 4 January 2017
