Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyboy (kiltartan By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Ballyboy (kiltartan By.) is a well-preserved earthen ringfort in level Galway grassland, its subcircular bank and external fosse still drawing a clear line around thirty-seven metres of forgotten life. The eastern causewayed gap may be original, inviting entry rather than blocking it, as if the fort still expects visitors. People may have lived, hid or performed there before being remembered only as a fairy fort, human months transformed into marvel.
In level grassland. Well-preserved subcircular rath (37m N-S) defined by a bank and external fosse. A causewayed gap (Wth 5.5m) at E may be original. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 October 2016
