Half a kilometre from the last house, a shallow ring of earth still holds its shape on the western slope. People called it a fairy fort, but the measure is human: twenty-six metres across, a bank wide enough to walk beside, and two gaps cut through it like doors. The field around it has changed owners and names, yet the circle remains the clearest thing in the landscape, marking the place where people once drew a line between inside and outside.

Situated on a slight W-facing slope in a low-lying landscape with rock outcrop. This is a grass-covered subcircular area (int. dims 26m N-S; 21m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank which is best preserved at SE (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1m), and traces of an external fosse represented by a band of rushes (Wth 4m) at SW. There are entrances at E (Wth 3.3m) and SSE (Wth 1.4m) (Farrelly 1989, vol. 2, 37).
