What is recorded here
Lissamogha, the ringfort of the milking-place, stands as a 27-metre circular earthen bank in Acres, offering a sweeping view of the Shannon estuary. Its eastern wall rises 1.8 metres above the interior while the western edge has flattened into a shallow platform, suggesting centuries of livestock traffic or human neglect. The two gaps at the northeast and southeast likely mark secondary entrances rather than primary gates, hinting that the fort served a busy agricultural community rather than a defensive stronghold. The name itself preserves the memory of daily labour, transforming a simple earthwork into a witness of local life.

Lissamogha/Lios an Mhacha (ringfort of the milking-place). This circular univallate rath has an extensive view of the surrounding land and of the Shannon estuary to the N. It consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank; to the NW to W the bank only survives as a platform rising 1.2m above the surrounding land. It is best preserved to the E, where it measures 1.8m above the interior. The width of the bank varies between 3m-6m at the base. A shallow fosse is to be noted from the N through E to S, which measures 2m in width and .5m below the surrounding land. Two gaps at the NE and SE measuring 6m and 4m respectively are probably secondary features.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 152. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
