Fairy forts are not fairy creations. They are human buildings from before written records, misnamed later because people stopped understanding them. The fort in Acres is a true ringfort: a circular dwelling place with a bank, a ditch, and two narrow entrances. It is not a fantasy circle. It is a home made stone by stone by people who are no longer named.

Internal diameter 37m N-S, 30m E-W Situated in gently sloping pastureland, this site has an extensive view of the Shannon estuary. It consists of a sub-circular area enclosed by an earthen bank with a fosse to be noted to the NW through N to E. The enclosing bank is best preserved to the S- SE, where it measures 2m externally and 1.6m above the interior, the width of the bank at the base varying between 5m-8m. A flat-bottomed fosse can be traced from the NW through N to E, where it measures 3m in width and .6m below the surrounding land. Two gaps to the ESE and WSW provide access to the interior, both measuring 1.2m in width. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
