This commemorative plaque records: Fairthorpe Cars. Production was started in 1954 by Air Vice Marshall Bennett, an RAF pathfinder. Originally sited where Budgens now stands, it closed in 1976. Don Bennett CBE DSO founded Fairthorpe Cars in 1954, producing innovative microcars like the Atom and Electron; Bennett was a notable RAF commander during World War II, leading the Pathfinder Force.
