Half a metre below the modern grass at Boherash, a forgotten ditch still holds its shape. People dug it, walked past it for centuries, and forgot it completely. The housing developers cut through that forgetting in 2004, exposing a long rounded groove and the small things dropped into it: flint, bone, charcoal, copper. Forgetting is not loss when measurement returns what was hidden.

Within the historic town (CO027-042----) of Glanworth, to the SW of 'Rock Abbey' (CO027-040----). Excavation in advance of a housing development in Boherash townland in 2004 revealed the remains of a linear fosse. Two sections of the fosse were uncovered in Trenches 2 and 4 and both extended beyond the excavated area. The most southerly section of the linear fosse (L 12.5m; Wth 1.8m; max. D 1m), with a rounded base, was uncovered in Trench 4. A flint flake, animal bone, teeth, a copper object and pieces of charcoal were found in the fill of the fosse. Eight pits (CO027-210----), one which contained 13th/14th-century pottery, were cut into the fosse and post-dated its backfilling. The second section of the linear fosse (L 12.5m; D 0.92m) was in line with the first and was uncovered c. 35m to the N in Trench 2. Only the E side of this portion of the fosse, which extended the full length of Trench 2, was excavated. The fill consisted of charcoal-flecked silty clay.
