Enclosures and house sites NE of Hill Castles Scar

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Hill Castles Scar and the enclosed house sites beside it stand as one of the oldest living landscapes in North Yorkshire. People shaped the hill, built shelters and kept the land marked long before written records. The enclosure still holds that human pressure. The scar edge, the field lines and the hidden ground together form a place where life repeated itself across centuries.
The National Heritage List for England records Enclosures and house sites NE of Hill Castles Scar as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
