Enclosure in Rathmore North

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Rathmore Castle shadowed the wet pasture where the enclosure hid, but no map or aerial photo ever caught its shape. It vanished beneath grass and water while people walked past, perhaps forgetting the boundary line entirely. Forgetting is not the same as losing; it is a living arrangement where the land keeps its own secret.
In wet pasture, at the W edge of a poorly drained area and 180m to N of a townland boundary with Rathmore South. Rathmore Castle (LI031-019----) lies 390m to NW. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Identified on the Limerick Gas Pipeline (Ref. Map 6, Site 6/28). Monument is not visible on OSi aerial orthoimage taken 2005-2012, or on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 or on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. See attached Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018 and Bord Gais Eireann orthoimage marked 182. Compiled by: Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly Date of upload: 30 October 2020
