Enclosure in Rathmore (caher Par.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On slopes of a natural ridge running N-S along W edge of enclosure. There are subtle undulations in field. A ringfort (TS076-048----) 'Rathmore' is located c. 300m to S on crest of hill. This possible enclosure (diam. c. 40m) was identified as a semi-circular cropmark on an aerial photographs (ASIAP (32) 3, 7 and 15). It is conjoined with an enclosure (TS076-070001-) to the N and a possible enclosure (TS076-070003-) to the W and assoicated with a larger enclosure (TS076-069----). Field levelled c. 10 years ago and according to landowner the soil in this area is very black, quite different from the surrounding soil, concentrated where the larger enclosure was located. The cropmark could not be identified in the adjoining field due to different crop conditions, so it is not possible to establish whether the semi-circular cropmark is in fact half of a circular enclosure or the W portion of an associated field system.
