Enclosure in Liskennett West

Enclosure

What is recorded here

In pasture, on break in S-facing hill slope. Sub-rectangular area (25.5m N-S; 20m E-W) fully enclosed by inner earthen bank and partially by outer earthen bank with intervening fosse (Wth 1.95m). Inner bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 2m), best preserved NE->SE, becomes quite linear along N and E sides before curving gently from SE to NW corner. Outer bank (ext. H 0.45m) can be clearly traced S->WSW, being best preserved at SW; remains of removed linear bank along outer edge of fosse SE->S. In general, fosse (D 1.45m) is present only where outer bank is visible S->WSW, best preserved at SW where it is littered with loose stone. Interior, under pasture, dips gently towards the centre with mature deciduous trees growing along verges at NE and S->WNW. Raised farm passage skirts close to W side.
