Enclosure in Kilmeany

This burial ground would appear to have been cut in half by a fieldbank, and there are no surface remains of the site in the field to the SW. All that remains today is a semi-circular earthen enclosure (KE011-035001-) measuring internally 28m NE-SW and 45m NW-SE. The interior is raised considerably above the surrounding land. A quarry has slightly cut the SW corner of this site. An earthen ridge running across the interior of this site in an E-W direction measures c 6m wide at the base. A1.4m wide fosse would appear to run along this bank on the N side. The external height of the bank measures .6m-.8m, the internal height of the bank .3m-1.3m and the width of the bank at the base c 6m. The highest point of the interior measures 4m above the surrounding land. This site is marked on the 1841-42 OS map as 'Kilmeany Burial Ground' and on the 1939 map as 'Kilmorna Burial Ground (disused)'. The above description is derived from C.
