Enclosure in Kilcorney

Kilcorney holds a ruined circular room sixty metres wide on a north-facing plateau, its slab wall collapsed and half-swallowed by scrub. The region is crowded with ancient houses and burial mounds stretching from prehistory to post-medieval times, suggesting this was no isolated experiment but a long-lived human landscape. Perhaps the enclosure marked a boundary between families, seasons or claims, its round shape resisting the angular logic of later fields. The stones no longer stand tall enough to exclude anyone, yet they still arrange the slope into a place set apart from ordinary ground.
