Enclosure in Cuckoohill

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On the crest of a hill in undulating terrain, under tillage. Monument depicted on 1st (1840) ed. and 2nd (1904-05) ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure. On the later edition a small quarry is shown immediately N of the enclosure. The monument has been levelled with no visible trace above ground. However, it shows up as a cropmark on an aerial photograph (ASIAP (32) 0-2, 3-8-1996). Since 1904-05 the field boundaries to S and E of the enclosure have also been removed. A post and wire fence runs NW-SE almost immediately E of the monument. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 20 January 2014

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
