Enclosure in Clashnagraun

Situated on an E-W ridge (dims. c. 95m x 40m; H c. 1.2m) which slopes gently to the S in a low-lying area of pastureland, surrounded by rolling hills. The N side of the site has been slightly truncated by a deep field drain along the field boundary which abuts this side. Not indicated on the 1st ed. (1843) OS 6-inch map but shown as a trapezoidal-shaped enclosure on the 1903 ed. with a circular feature within at the W end. It shows up clearly as a cropmark on an aerial photograph taken in 1968 (CUCAP, AVN 69). Though levelled, the outline of a fosse surrounding the enclosure is visible as a darker grass line. The circular feature indicated on OS 6-inch map and aerial photograph is at a lower level than the ridge itself.
