O'Kelly and others may be pointing to a small oval enclosure in southern Boggan, misread as a fort because it stood near the river. If so, the true shape emerges: not a warrior stronghold but a marked boundary, perhaps for pasture, ritual or residence. The river would have carried life past it, and the enclosure would have shaped how people used that land.

According to O'Kelly (1985, 28) in Boggan townland, 'there is a fort or moat overlooking the Munster River'. O'Kelly may be referring to an oval enclosure (KK017-014----), possibly a tree-ring towards the S portion of the townland which may have been identified as a 'fort' from the OS 6-inch map.
