What is recorded here

Enclosure in Ballynagraigue is a low earthen ring on a Kerry hilltop, large enough to walk around but small enough that the whole countryside arrives at once. Its grassed interior holds faint stone mounds, and local identification calls it a disused children's burial ground. That means the place may have been set apart for the smallest dead, while still facing every direction at once.

Situated on the crest of a hill, with extensive views in all directions, this site consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank. The internal diameter of the site measures 33m N-S, and 35m E-W; the bank is low and measures c 5m wide. The exterior height of the bank varies from .4m-1.6m, and its internal height .3m-.8m. The internal area is at a higher level than the surrounding land, and contains small low mounds of stones, now grassed over. It is marked on OS maps as 'Children's Burial Ground (disused)'.
