Enclosure in Ballyconry (burren By., Drumcreehy Ed)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Cappanawalla hillfort holds a hidden chamber on its eastern slope, close beneath the summit. A stone wall encloses a space fourteen metres across, perhaps a dwelling for someone who watched the Burren valley or tended herds above the cloud line. The mountain kept this room secret until satellite imagery revealed its outline in 2011.
High on the E slope of Cappanawalla, quite close to the summit. A possible irregular hut site (diam. c. 14m E-W; 10m N-S) defined by a stone wall was noted on Digital Globe (imagery date 2011-13) and reported to the National Monuments Service by Ros Ó Maoldúin. This lies within Cappanawalla hillfort (CL002-076001-). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 23 November 2020
