Glencairn stands in Ballymullan, County Down, an enclosure whose age remains uncertain but whose boundaries are clear. The name suggests a sheltered valley, perhaps chosen for grass, quiet or protection from wind. Whatever it enclosed, the land still remembers the shape of that decision.
