Empire Ford

Steamship (period Unassigned)-(1943)

What is recorded here

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Empire Ford as Steamship (period Unassigned)-(1943). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Empire Ford was a British steamship built in 1943 during World War II. It was lost in 1943 when it was deliberately sunk as a blockship in the Outer Dowsing, Shetland, to protect the Scapa Flow naval base; no lives were lost, and its wreck remains a significant wartime defensive structure.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
