Embanked enclosure

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or stone ringfort in Carrowduff AND Garbally, County Roscommon, Ireland. The 1837 and 1915 Ordnance Survey maps marked it as a circular embanked enclosure with an external diameter of about 35 metres on a rise in an undulating landscape with field walls. It is no longer visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture, though a cashel stands about 170 metres to the southwest.
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map and situated on a rise in an undulating landscape with field walls. It is not visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture but it was probably a cashel. The cashel (RO051-057----) is c. 170m to the SW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
