Ellon Castle kept a chamber pot beside its best chair, proving that grandeur and filth share one household. John Baxter rebuilt the tower in 1706 and 1781, yet the basement vault reaches back to the early 1400s. The castle was dismantled in 1851, but its round tower and south wall still stand like a sentence broken in half.
