In memory of ELIZABETH NELSON of Skerton, spinster, Aged 31. Who, at this spot, on the evening of Thursday January 11th 1866 was barbarously murdered in defence of her chastity. "O Lord, thou hast seen my wrong, judge thou my cause" (LAM. ch.3., v.59.)
