This blue commemorative plaque records: Brook Street Chapel This was built following the Act of Toleration of 1689, which allowed Protestant dissenters to worship in their own Chapels. Elizabeth Gaskell, the Novelist, is buried in the graveyard. Recorded plaque organisation: Knutsford Town Council.
Elizabeth Gaskell was a prominent Victorian novelist and biographer known for her works that provided insights into social conditions, most notably with "Mary Barton" and her biography of Charlotte Brontë.
