Elizabeth de Burgh was born at Carrickfergus Castle on 6 July 1332, the only child of William Donn de Burgh and Maud of Lancaster. She lost her father before her first birthday and carried the de Burgh claim across the sea, marrying Lionel of Antwerp at the Tower of London in 1342. Her daughter Philippa continued the Ulster line, helping it flow into later English royal claims.
