Edward VII, John Wallis, and Jack (Kid) Berg blue plaque

This blue commemorative plaque records: Royal York Hotel. Sidmouth's first purpose built hotel opened 1810. In Oct. 1819 the Duke of Kent first visited Sidmouth. A copy of the famous Long Print of Sidmouth was presented to him at the hotel by John Wallis. The Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, stayed here with his tutor on 30th Sept. 1856, whilst on a private educational tour of South West. Recorded plaque organisation: Sid Vale Association.

King Edward VII of the United Kingdom reigned from 1901 to 1910 and is remembered for his diplomatic efforts and the era of peace known as the Edwardian Age; John Wallis was an English mathematician who made significant contributions to the field of algebra and helped develop early concepts of calculus. Jack (Kid) Berg's historical significance is not recorded in this context.
