This green commemorative plaque records: Orpins House 17th c., formerly a glebe cottage. Home of Edward Orpin, clerk of the market. A portrait of him as the Parish Clerk is in the Tate Gallery. Buried opposite in 1781. Recorded plaque organisation: Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust.
Edward Orpin served as the clerk of the market and parish clerk, known enough to have his portrait featured in the Tate Gallery; he lived in a house dating back to the 17th century that was formerly a glebe cottage.
