This blue commemorative plaque records: Lieutenant-Commander Edward Courtney Boyle VC (Later Rear Admiral) Born in the 23rd March 1883 son of Major Boyle of 3 Chatsworth Square Carlisle. Awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions between 27th April and 18th May in the Sea of Marmora Turkey Recorded plaque organisation: Carlisle and District Civic Trust.
Edward Courtney Boyle was a British naval officer who received the Victoria Cross for his bravery during operations in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey, in 1915. He later rose to the rank of Rear Admiral and is remembered for his distinguished service in the Royal Navy.
