What is recorded here
Edrington Castle stood on a steep bank above the Whiteadder Water from at least the 14th century, guarding disputed Border lands for kings and Lauder knights. Its owners rode to Halidon Hill two miles away, lost estates to English crowns, and recovered them when Scottish rule returned. The castle is ruined now, but the hill still holds the shape of a weapon pointed at the river.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Edrington Castle as Findspot (21st Century), Toggle (iron Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
