Edith Cavell, Margaret Dunlop Gibson, Annette van Dissel, and Laurel Court School blue plaque

This blue commemorative plaque records: From 1870 Margaret Gibson with Annette van Dissel, ran a school here at LAUREL COURT for nearly fifty years. Nurse EDITH CAVELL executed in Brussels in 1915, attended as a pupil teacher from c.1884 to c.1886. Recorded plaque organisation: Peterborough Civic Society.

Margaret Dunlop Gibson and Annette van Dissel operated Laurel Court School from 1870 for nearly five decades, educating numerous students including Edith Cavell, who later gained international recognition for her nursing work and execution by German firing squad in World War I for assisting Allied soldiers to escape from German-occupied Belgium.
