Twenty-three Learmonth Terrace stands as a nineteenth-century tower house in Edinburgh, its angle still sharp enough to cut through forgetfulness. The city has swallowed older shapes whole, yet this one kept its edges, perhaps because tower houses were built to refuse erosion. It does not need approval to exist or explanation to resist.
