Castle Street has always belonged to the city's appetite. The building is an 18th Century tenement that also became a public house, though no date is recorded for when the drinking began. Rooms above the bar would have held families, workers or strangers passing through Edinburgh. The address still stands at 34 and 34a, a small column of stone where private life and public noise shared one structure.
