Linked to St Libethan, an early Christian saint associated with the area, the old parish church and its surrounding site were historically connected to local healing traditions and pilgrimages. The church is said to have stood on the site of an earlier Celtic chapel, with folklore suggesting that St Libethan was a hermit who lived nearby and was venerated for his piety and miracles.
