Colinton Road still holds the gardener's cottage, garages and stables beside Merchiston Castle School. The garages are modern, but the cottage and stables resist a single date, suggesting horses and tools moved through that land long before cars arrived. A keeper may have tended gardens, fed animals and mended wheels while children played beyond the wall. The site remains private, yet its shape preserves a working household where education and labour shared one road.
