Wellhouse Tower still stands inside Princes Street Gardens, a fourteenth-century stone sentinel beside Edinburgh Castle. It is not a display pavilion or a modern invention. The tower has watched the city through every change of sky, season and empire. Much of its history has been lost, but the stones remain clear about one thing: this place has endured.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street Gardens, Wellhouse Tower as Tower (14th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Wellhouse Tower, part of Edinburgh Castle complex, was built in the 14th century and is associated with the expansion of the castle under King David II of Scotland. It is important as a surviving element of Edinburgh Castle's historic defences and as a reminder of the city's strategic and political significance in medieval Scotland.
