Greyfriars Church, built in the 17th century, was constructed by the Church of Scotland and dedicated to the Greyfriars religious community. The church and its associated Covenanters' Prison became significant during the religious conflicts of the 17th century, particularly for its role in the persecution of Scottish Covenanters.
