Stackel Brae on Eday may have hosted a medieval castle, though no standing wall confirms the claim. The name suggests a place of importance, perhaps a defensive seat or administrative center for the island. Without visible ruins, the castle exists only in suggestion and memory. The brae itself remains, holding the shape of what may have stood there before time erased it.
