Eday, Castle of Stackel Brae

Castle (medieval)(possible)

What is recorded here

Stackel Brae on Eday may have hosted a medieval castle, though no standing wall confirms the claim. The name suggests a place of importance, perhaps a defensive seat or administrative center for the island. Without visible ruins, the castle exists only in suggestion and memory. The brae itself remains, holding the shape of what may have stood there before time erased it.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Eday, Castle of Stackel Brae as Castle (medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
